CANAAN Center for ORGANIC RESEARCH AND EXTENSION

CANAAN ESTABLISHES CENTER FOR ORGANIC RESEARCH AND EXTENSION (CORE)

The Canaan Center for Organic Research and Extension is a non-profit national center for research, education and extension activities promoting organic production and marketing of fruits, vegetables and grains in Palestine and abroad.  Opened in late 2014, the center is helping revive the authentic traditions of organic farming in Palestine while enriching them with modern organic farming knowledge from the organic/ecological/sustainability movement.  Utilizing markets,  both local and international, will create a space for the small traditional farming family in the modern world.

The main researchers will be Palestinian farmers,  aided by professional researchers and guided by established scholars and experts in the fields. The center will also serve as a research field for international scholars who may wish to pursue study agendas in Palestine. CORE will collaborate with universities and other research centers around the world, pulling resources in organic farming into Palestine. CORE will share the wealth of our traditional farming knowledge with the organic movement around the world to help link the center with ideas, support, and partnerships. The Center will be another vehicle to realize Canaan’s mission of empowering Palestinian farming communities to sustain their livelihood and afford them a space in modern society.

Canaan Fair Trade is working with partners around the world to fund this vital project for our farming community.  See CORE website for more information about the center,  or to see how you can help with a tax deductible gift by visiting The Land of Canaan Foundation.
